First Brush Of Trump With Terror As Seals Almost Fail In Yeman
Navy Seals attack terror target and suffer 4 casualties.
An attack was launched on a terror target but 4 seals were rendered hors de combat with one killed and 24 civilians killed
Donald Trump when on the campaign trail had made it a single point agenda that he would destroy Terror that emanates from anywhere. He had also announced that he would within 90 days formulate a plan for the destruction of iSIS and their ilk.He had said his generals would present him the plan and it would be executed after 90 days.
Obama had earlier approved a Navy Seal operation against a high-value target in Yemen. The attack for "operational reasons" was not carried out and got delayed.Donald has presented the plan within 5 days of his taking over and he consulted his Secretary for Homeland security and secretary defense General "Mad dog" Mattis. After listening to the plan Trump gave his approval.
The Seals
The Navy Seals are specialist commando forces of the US navy and were in operation in the attack to eliminate Osama bIn Laden who was holed up in Abbottabad in Pakistan. The Navy Seal were entrusted with the operation two days back.As the Navy seals took off in a heliborne raid the terror group were alerted and had taken positions on rooftops of some buildings. The US Seals were assisted by special forces of some friendly countries.
The Attack
The seals came under fire and one seal was killed instantly and 3 injured. The seals had no choice to call for an air attack and this soon came.It was a disaster as 24 civilians were killed, though later the US claimed that many high-value targets were also eliminated.
The Yemen government called for an end to the strikes by US forces and many in the US administration called the attack a failure.Donald has been unfazed claiming the attack was a success. The president also attended the funeral of the fallen seal. Some senators have questioned the result of the commando operation. The president condemned this as heresy.
Final word
The fact remains that this is the first step that Donald has taken and he would have seen it's not easy.Much of Yemen is in turmoil and a civil war is on, but the government forces don't control even Sanaa. Donald will have to devise more potent attacks with better co-ordination.Perhaps the generals sitting in the Pentagon have no idea of how the conflict is going on.It will require an out of box approach to deal with this menace and that will be the acid test for the US president.
