Tank Biathlon In Russia And Indian Army Tanks Put On A Poor Show
The Indian army tanks broke down and India was disqualified
The annual army games in Russia saw a tank race and India were knocked out as both the Indian T-90 tanks broke down and had to to be scratched.
The Biathlon is a competition for tanks of all armies of the world. This year it was again held in Russia and 21 countries took part. The Biathlon is a name which originated from Russia and is the brainchild of the Russian defense minister. It is a unique competition and takes place before the annual world army games. This year, the tank biathlon was held from 27 July to 12 August. The competition involves straight racing over obstacles as well as relay racing and firing and other exercises.
The Indian army sent two tanks namely Russian T-90 that are operated by the Indian army. The tanks and crew were shipped to Russia.Much was expected from the Indian contingent especially as they were doing well in the heats and had reached the semi finals. In the final race, the Indian tanks got off to a good start but the tanks broke down and the Indian team was disqualified. It was, by all means, poor show and out of 21 countries only the Indian tanks broke down. They are supposed to have developed mechanical faults that does not speak highly of the maintenance schedules of the Indian army and Army HQ will do well to take note of this.
Tank racing is a new sport and will certainly catch up.If car racing is so popular, tank racing will be doubly so.
