Huma was a rising star and sure for a plum post if Clinton won, but now she faces an uncertain future and is enmeshed in a divorce with ex-congressman Anthony Weiner
Huma Abedin is a lovely woman. She impressed Hillary while in Washinton and from the days of Bill Clinton's presidency has been her Chief of Staff.In the 2008 election for the Democratic nomination, Huma was the chief coordinator.Come 2016 and again she was behind the scene as the most powerful advisor to Hillary Clinton.If Hillary had won, Huma was sure to get a plum post in a possible Clinton administration.
Suddenly the heavens broke asunder for Huma as Clinton was defeated.She was emotionally involved and openly wept at the defeat of Hillary.She had been into another shock as in June last year she had decided to file a suit for separation and divorce from her husband and Ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner.
Now divorce in America is always a messy affair and involves large sums of money as alimony.Donald Trump paid $20 million to his first wife in a divorce settlement.However, for Huma, this divorce is not ordinary as Weiner is a disgraced man and is charged with sexting messages with a young girl.He is undergoing rehabilitation.When the scandal broke Huma was devasted and she decided to separate from Weiner. Though the couple lives in the same house in New York they are no longer together in the accepted sense.
With Hillary defeated Huma faces an uncertain future but she is a resilient woman and sure to come back into the limelight.Her divorce will, however, need to be sorted out.As per latest report, Anthony does not want a divorce and he is hoping that Huma will reconcile with him.So far there is no clue to her mind but close friends do say that she is unlikely to relent.At the same time, she is a doting mother to her son and said that she and her husband are committed to his welfare and upbringing.
Hillary Clinton is a big factor in Huma's life.But it should not be forgotten that Huma has the ethos of the sub-continent where ( She is a Pakistani) women generally are submissive.She also has the example of Hillary Clinton, her boss who continued living with Bill Clinton despite his sexual philandering and even a charge of rape.
Whatever happens things for Huma won't be the same but as she is a steely girl and has years before her( she is only 41)one can be sure that the last of Huma has not yet been heard.Maybe her best days are still to come.
