The Al-Aksa mosque is the 3rd holiest shrine in Islamic thought and practice. It is holy for both Jews and Moslems. However, blood has been spilled at this holy place. Three radical Islamic youngmen aged between 19-29 entered the Mosque from the East gate and targetted 2 Israeli Policemen. The policemen were not Jews but a sect called the Druze that has a philosophy akin in parts to Hinduism. They also believe in transmigration of soul and rebirth. The Druze are recogniszed as a minority in Israel and they number about 120,000.
The 3 youths fired from their home made automatic rifles and
shot 2 policemen. They died in hospital. The Israeli police reacted and the 3 gunmen were chased and shot dead. What a sad end and a waste of life. How could the young men have thought they could escape and they would not be happy that they shot 2 Druze.The dead terrorists have been identified and from their I cards and driving license it is learned that they were Israeli Arabs. They were not Palestinians. This is disconcerting news as now the Israelis will have to watch their backside and take guard against those Arabs who are Israeli citizens.
The police have shut the mosque and Fridays prayers were canceled. The Grand Mufti who protested was arrested and all the worshipers were sent home. The sad part is that a place of worship was used for this dastardly act. I wonder what is the rationale for it.
